We took Jeremy for his 2nd innoculation appointment last Wednesday (13 September 2006). He was given 2 injections, one for (DTaP, Hib, Polio) and another which was a vaccine against pneumococcal diseases. He was pretty calm when the doctor injected his butt but screamed his head off when the 2nd injection was administered on his thigh. As with his first innoculation, we were assured again by the doctor that the probability of him developing is a fever is only 10% as these new vaccines contain purified inactivated virus/bacteria which decreases this probability substantially. Although a mild or low grade fever is not unusual. My mom and MIL told me that me and hubby developed high fever after such injections and spent many sleepless nights caring for us. It is a relief to know that with the advancement in medicine, babies no longer have to endure the many side effects of these injections.
I took the day off to care for Jeremy and monitor his reaction against the vaccines administered earlier in the day. He was fine for most of time but developed a low grade fever in the evening. "Jeremy had his first fever"! The reading on the termometer was 37.9C. I gave him a tepid sponge down and by late night his temperature was down to 37.4C. However, by morning it went up again to 37.9C. I decided to give him some paracetamol prescribed by the pediatrician and a tepid sponge bath again. Again his temperature went down to 37.2C but soared up again by afternoon. His temperature was see-sawing up and down by no more than 0.6 degrees at a time. By evening, his temperature was back to normal and he was in high spirits. Phew! It's funny though that he did not develop any fever for his first innoculation. I guess a higher dose must have been administered for the second shot. I shudder to think what the 3rd shot would be like or when he has to take the MMR shot (at 1 year old) or the booster shot (18 months)! The joys and worries that come with motherhood! *sigh*

I noticed Jeremy is just over one week older than Raelynne :-) So I guess our tracking of our children's development will be more or less the same. Can compare notes! :-)
yeah - definitely can... :)
