So - how did Jeremy Soo Hoo Yang Shan get his name? Firstly we did not agonise over it like most parents - we've decided on the onset that it was either going to be a Jeremy or an Emily.. period.
Jeremy
We were looking for a three syllable name which begins with the letter J. Why J? Cos his daddy's name begins with the letter J as well as in Jeffrey. In the end we settled for Jeremy cos we both liked the name very much.
Soo Hoo
Soo Hoo is his family surname. Some say that it is a surname which came from an official title (Prime Minister). Another claimed that the origin was all due to General Suet Ting Shan' s son Suet Kong fault who accidentally killed the emperor's son during a game. The emperor decreed that all the Suet family members are to be executed. The family members then fled down south until they reached Toishan and settled there by changing their surname to Szeto or Seto or Situ or Soo Hoo. (some what similar to a medieval witness protection program - ha ha)
Yang Shan
'Fear not a bad life; be afraid to have a bad name,' a Chinese saying echoes
His chinese name were pretty much dependent on the selection of characters given by some famous geomancer on Petaling Street who selected characters based on the five elements that he belong to based on his birth date and time. For eg. If the individual is strong in wood, for example, it is auspicious for the person to have a name with Chinese characters representing earth. In this case, he was kinda strong in everything except wood and water and these elements needed to be strengthened - hence the name Yang (ocean - yeah loads of water) and Shan (some kind of tree).
The geomancer also did a life analysis and concluded the following:-
a)Auspicious directions - north
Inauspicious directions - south
Hence, baby J where possible should sleep with his head facing north
b) Inauspicious colours - red. So no red T-shirts or any form of clothing for him
c) He can't wear metal bracelets. So no anklet for him.
d) He can't indulge in extreme sports - so no surfing, bungee jumping for the rest of his life!
e) We need to take necessary precautions to reduce the child's risk and ensure his safety during the course of his daily adventures - it means watching him like a hawk and not letting him out of our sight! It is predicted that his luck would only change for the better when he reaches the age of 7 years and 8 months...
A pretty hefty load of restrictions on a child if you ask me!
